Product Description

KATHMANDU's Turmeric Flavored Yak Chews are made for dogs who need a long-lasting chew with a little something extra. Made with yak milk, lime juice, and turmeric, they start firm and slowly soften as your dog works through them, which keeps them interested and busy for a lot longer than a regular treat would manage.

They're rawhide-free, gluten-free, lactose-free, and made without preservatives, additives, dyes, or added sugar. The firm texture also helps with plaque and tartar buildup during regular chewing, so it's pulling double duty as a treat and a dental helper.

Each chew is handcrafted near the Himalayan foothills using traditional methods, simple ingredients, a naturally tough texture, and a bit more flavor than your dog was expecting.

Responsible Feeding and Safety Tips

Make Sure the Size Is Right

Choose a chew that suits your dog’s size and chewing strength. It should be comfortable to hold and work on without being small enough to swallow.

Stay Nearby During Chew Time

Keep an eye on your dog while they enjoy their turmeric-flavoured yak chew. Strong or enthusiastic chewers may work through it faster, so remove any piece that becomes small enough to swallow.

Introduce the Chew Gradually

If yak cheese chews are new to your dog, start with shorter chewing sessions. Give them time to adjust before allowing longer sessions.

Check the Chew as It Gets Smaller

Have a look at the chew before each session. If you notice sharp edges, cracks, or a piece that has become too small, it’s best to take it away.

Keep Water Close By

Fresh drinking water should always be available while your dog is chewing and once they’re finished.

Shipping

Enjoy free shipping on purchases over $65 after applicable promotions. For instance, if you're using a 10% discount code, the initial total must be at least $70.56 before the discount is applied.

Lifesaver during work calls!

Gave this to my lab during a 2-hour Zoom meeting, and I didn't hear a peep out of her the entire time. Will definitely be reordering a few more!

Best chew option on the market

No artificial dyes, no preservatives, and no weird chemical smell. Kathmandu consistently delivers top-tier natural treats.

Picky dog actually likes it!

My mini Aussie usually snobs plain yak chews, but the turmeric flavor caught his attention. He carried it around all afternoon before settling down to chew.

The puff trick is awesome

Soaked the small end stub in water for a few minutes and microwaved it for 45 seconds, it puffed up into a huge, crunchy turmeric cheese puff! My pup gobbled it up in seconds.

Solid quality chew

Very dense and well-made. It's a bit pricey for a single chew, but considering it lasts way longer than soft treats or bully sticks, the value is definitely there.

Great rawhide replacement for senior dogs

Adding a little natural turmeric to his chew routine is a great addition for my older golden. It slowly softens as he licks and chews it, making it gentle on his teeth while keeping him active.

Super pup approved!

My dog was immediately curious about the smell and started gnawing on it right away. 10/10!

Long-lasting and clean

Super hard chew that takes my power-chewer German Shepherd a couple of days to work through. I was worried the turmeric might stain the carpet yellow, but it didn't leave any marks at all. Great quality!

Great chew for my senior dog

I use turmeric in my own cooking, so I was thrilled to find it in a yak chew for my 8-year-old rescue mix. She absolutely loves the taste, and it keeps her happily occupied on her mat after our evening walks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Himalayan Yak Chews?

Himalayan Yak Chews are 100% natural, long-lasting dog chews made from just two ingredients — yak milk and lime juice. They're vet-approved and completely free from artificial additives, preservatives, and chemicals. As your dog chews, it also naturally helps clean teeth and reduce plaque. Once it wears down to a small size, simply microwave it into a crunchy yak puff treat — zero waste, maximum value.

What is the story or origin behind this chew?

Kathmandu's Natural Dog Chew is produced using an ancient recipe of the people living in the high altitude of Nepal (Himalayas). The smaller variant of this hard cheese, locally known as Churpi, is still used as a protein-supplemental human chew in the Himalayas and is free of chemical preservatives and foreign additives. Our dog chew is a larger variant of Churpi that keeps your dog happy and busy for hours.

How long does our yak chews last?

Most dogs need several chewing sessions to finish a single yak chew, even if they're aggressive chewers. Unlike many other chews, ours never lose their flavor, so your dog stays engaged for longer-lasting enjoyment.

Are yak chews safe and easy to digest?

Yes! Made from 100% natural, single-ingredient sources with no artificial colors, flavors, chemicals, or preservatives, our chews are highly digestible. They're designed to soften and break down gradually as your dog chews — rather than splintering like many rawhide or bone-based alternatives.

Do yak chews leave stains or color behind?

No! Since our chews contain no artificial dyes, they won't leave any color or stains behind. They're completely mess-free and safe around your pet's fur, carpet, bedding, and furniture.

Are they suitable for puppies or large dogs?

Yes! We offer multiple sizes so you can choose the right fit for your dog's breed and chewing strength. As with any chew, select an appropriate size and supervise your dog while chewing — especially puppies and powerful chewers.

I'm not sure what size chew is right for my dog. Can you help?

We offer 7 sizes to match your dog's weight, so every pup gets an appropriately-sized chew:

Small(1-1.5oz) - Under 15lbs

Medium(1.9-2.3oz) - Under 30lbs

Large(3-4oz) - Under 55lbs

X-Large(5-6oz) - Under 80lbs

Jumbo(6-7oz) - Under 90lbs

Mega(7-8oz) - Under 100lbs

XXL(8-10oz) - Over 100lbs

If your dog is between sizes or a particularly aggressive chewer, we recommend sizing up for a longer-lasting chew. As always, supervise chewing sessions regardless of size.

What safety precautions should I keep in mind while my dog is chewing?

Our Chew provides a hygienic and safe option compared to bones and other chewing treats for dogs. Like similar products, including chews, rawhide, or bones, there is a risk of choking if swallowed and a possibility of breaking or chipping a tooth. It is essential to always supervise your dog during chewing activities and ensure they have access to plenty of water. If you observe any potential risks, stop using the product immediately.

What is the proper storage condition for the chew?

Store in a cool dry place. Do not refrigerate.

What's the difference between Yak Chew Nuggets, the Cheese Topper, and Yak Cheese Puffs?

Yak Chew Nuggets are bite-sized, long-lasting chews perfect for dedicated chewing sessions.
Himalayan Yak Cheese Topper is a powdered form you can sprinkle over your dog's regular food for added protein and flavor.
Crunchy Yak Cheese Puffs are light, crunchy treats — the same puffed texture you get when you microwave leftover chew pieces, now available ready-to-serve.
